I think that some of you are missing the one thing that all of the people listed have in common. To whit, suicide or untimely death by unhealthy living.

Everyone should have a "I've had 18 straight whiskeys, I think this is a record." kind of day at the infamous White Horse Tavern when visiting the NYC.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

It didn't click what the poll was for until I'd already voted for Nick Drake but I don't think it's too far off the mark.

I tried to spread them out by methodology... Hemingway took care of guns, bumping Van Gogh and Hunter.BeerMakesMeSmart wrote:Gotta go with my man Hem.
And no Hunter?I think that some of you are missing the one thing that all of the people listed have in common. To whit, suicide or untimely death by unhealthy living.
I suppose I should have included Spalding Gray (drowning) and Elliot Smith (self-inflicted knife-wound)
In order, for those who missed it:
Hemingway - Shotgun
Plath- Gas
Thomas- Whiskey and Morphine
Drake- Overdose of Prescription Anti-Depressants
Curtis- Hanging

How about Virginia Woolf? She filled her pockets up with heavy stones and jumped into the River Ouse near her weekend house is Sussex. From the list provided, I had to go with Hemingway.
The man who intoxicates himself on bad whisky is sometimes moved to kill his wife and set his house on fire, but the victim of applejack is capable of blowing up a whole town with dynamite and of reciting original poetry to every surviving inhabitant.
