RIP Kobe Bryant

Post by mistah willies »

"Of all the weird, vaguely insane things that Kobe Bryant has done in his weird, vaguely insane life — this is still our favorite — the most public and quietly strange might have been his claim at his press conference last night that he would go home and “whine about it tonight ... lot of wine ... lot of beer ... couple shots ... maybe like 20 of ‘em”"

Rest ye well, and may the gates open to the best pub in the heavens.

Man he had some good acid stories in that Nerttflix original doc called Have a Nice Trip or something like that.
Great show to watch for anyone who has tripped.

No shit? I'll have to check it out.

And by the by, thanks for the tip about the red capped Old Overholt. It showed up at my liquor store and on your recommendation I gave it a try and do not regret it. Good shit.

I think it just means that we're all vaguely ageing. It doesn't matter since I've seen those adders preserved in alcohol jars. I am pretty sure I am at least as poisonous and way more alcoholic.

I only know him from what I argue must be one of the greatest drinking songs of all time... Mr Bojangles

I've to my shame have only listened to covers of the song. This is my first time listening to the Jerry Jeff version. I like it. Much quicker than the covers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTraYM0WeLQ

My understanding of the story is that this guy Mr Bojangles actually existed and would go from bar to bar in New Orleans getting people to put money in the duke box and he would dance for a drink. Drink until he got kicked out or the bar closed and he'd go to the next one. A lot of the time he'd get picked up by the rozzers and thrown in the drunk tank. This is where Jerry Jeff met him. The story of why Jerry Jeff was there is that he allegedly propositioned the right woman, at the right time in the wrong place. Her husband, the bartender, called the police.
Major Strasser: What is your nationality?
Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

There's all these goddam versions of Mr. Bojangles out there. Some slow the tempo down. Some mix in a bunch of twings and twangs. All designed to make you cry. But none of those knock-offs could make me cry like the one in that post above - where the song was performed as it was composed in its authenticity. That's the key to reaching one's heart.
