J.V.Stalin (possibly on children), "Beat, Beat and Beat again!"
Seems reasonable (but then I went to a Public* School).
*For non-Brits, this means a private and expensive school where the kids are treated as if they were in a maximum security prison. Apparently it's good, since most of the Government Cabinet and all of the Royal Family went to a Public School...

Check out "Shite n' onions" on the web. Punk fueled Irish folk and rock. The Dead is sublime for afternoon drinking. I prefer "Workingmans' Dead" and "American Beauty".

Was that a jab? Did I disrespect the board somehow? If I jumped in too fast and broke rules of decorum, I apologize.Savage wrote:I was raised under the dictum, "Children should be seen and not heard." Damn fine collection of draaanking music here. Thanks for these finds. This is the old-school style of country, huh.
That Ray Wilie, he's continued on with that Arlo Guthrie story-telling stuff, and that is solid with the likes of me.
Cheers, man

Drinking songs
So I spent today drinking Jim Beam. I'll end the day doing the same.
Here's a thread aboot drinking songs. Every big city has at least one, I think. My city, Glasgow, has a few, but many were written by out-of-towners like Will Fyffe. And then there's the immortal Matt McGinn.
I was surprised to discovered that cool cats like Ramblin Jack Elliott have covered the song. Proud as fuck.

I belong to Glasgow
Dear old Glasgow toon
Well what's the matter with Glasgow
For it's goin' 'roon and 'roon
I'm only a common old working chap
As anyone here can see
But when I get a couple of drinks on a Saturday
Glasgow belongs to me
Me and a few o' my cronies
One or two pals o' my ain
We went into a hotel and we did very well
Then we came out once again
Then we went in tae another
And that's the reason I'm fu'
We had six deoch and dorus and then sang a chorus
Listen, I'll sing it to you
There's nothing in being teetotal
And saving a shilling or two
If your money you spend you got nothing to lend
Well that's all the better for you
There's nae harm in taking a droppie
It ends all your trouble and strife
It gives you a feeling that when you get home
You don't give a hang for your wife

Music in the Drunkard mood
I was bored on accounta Grumpy passing out and so I have the Youtube and typed in 70's music. I found myself really enjoying Steely Dan. Wow, I sez, you really are old, girl. Then I remembered, when I was a kid, I bought Can't Buy a Thrill in junior high. So I guess I was old even then. Listening to the classical music station, liking geezer rock. Now I am am married to a guy who, earlier tonight, did not recognize More Than a Feeling. I said, it's Boston. He said, huh? The city? ..... Mamas don't let your girl babies marry old guys.
