What do people like to snack on/nibble on when they're drinking? Do you look for a walker's crisp (potato chip), a pork scratching, or a pickled cucumber?
Do you go homemade or shop-bought?

Re: Bar snacks/bar nibbles
Really depends what you’re drinking. For chilled vodka shots, a small plate of pickles and smoked fish works smashingly. But if you’re drinking pints of robust beer interlaced with interludes of whiskey, a basket of deep fried cheese curds will do you quite well. I also wouldn’t argue with a cheese fondue or queso dip.
Honorable mentions go to such small bites as frites, Welsh rarebit, pickled eggs, bar pizza, hot wings, prawns, fried clams, pistachios and edamame.

I've got a view that bar food can't be too good or involve too much focus, otherwise, it just becomes a meal.

Most I would say are store bought or take-out.
Huge plate of nachos. Must have guac and all the fixin's.
Definitely some of Badfellow's fried cheese curds.
Also suggested by BF some queso dip- queso blanco preferred! Maybe even with chorizo like the time we shared.
Mozzarella sticks.
Deep fried mushrooms with Hidden Valley Ranch dressing.
Potato skins.
Assorted Asian appetizers such as egg rolls, crab Rangoon, and pot stickers.
And why not some crispy fried chicken wings with miscellaneous dips 'cause y'all know, I am 'murrican.

Can’t be "too good"? Doesn’t that apply to all British food?TheDrunkardAnglo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 6:15 amI've got a view that bar food can't be too good or involve too much focus, otherwise, it just becomes a meal.

All of the afore mentioned munchies to which I would add:
Poutine
Meat in tube form, brats, dogs, wieners, sausages the name means little the fixin's are king. A great Coney Style dog with a smoked hotdog, Greek chilli and enough onions to make half of New York cry. Famous Hot Wiener is what I grew up on.
Shark Coochie plates.
Walking tacos are hard to beat.
Tatter tots. Again all about the toppings but Loaded like a baked tater or with sausage grave smothering them are my top choices.

^ ^ ^ Yes to all of those. From the sausage section I like cocktail weenies whether simmered in sauce or as a pig in blanket. And tacos! How could I forget one of my favorite things in the world?!?!

Whether it's a fine whiskey or cheap beer you can't go wrong with nuts. I like lightly salted dry roasted peanuts, roasted unsalted almonds and cracking walnuts.

Re: Bar snacks/bar nibbles
I think I posted this elsewhere but I like to make my own spicy nut mix with almonds, walnuts, sometimes peanuts, pecans (but can't find 'em here so I use hazelnuts), and cashews (yeah I know they aren't nuts). I toss them in a skillet with butter, Worcestershire, hot sauce, and Cajuny type spices and crisp them off in the oven. Before I moved to Germany I would throw Chex cereal and Cheez-its in there too but of course can't find those here. Better than any stuff you could possibly buy.
