Re: Summer drink time.
sounds shit hot this. was gonna mix up a couple of 2.5 litre jugs of mai tai for tomorrow night when one of my buddies comes over. might make some of this instead/as well.
got into doing this during a previous heatwave....i love mixing drinks but sometimes if you have people over it can become a bit of a chore...made some tiki drinks up into some washed out milk bottles (the big handled ones) and just banged them in the cooler. that was a quick pour and a shake and you're back to the party. Anything with fresh juice you wanna do as soon before hand as possible otherwise it looses a bit of its zing. I found that squeezing one extra wedge into the glass when pouring sorted this out though.
really get a feel for how much booze goes into those drinks as well hah. 1 milk jug was tanking about a full litre of rum for most drinks. that would then make up like 5 tiki mugs worth of cocktails.

Ingredients
Tropical rum punch
64 ounces Mango Cranberry Juice
1 cup Peach Schnapps
1 cup Fresh Pineapple Chopped
2 Oranges Sliced
6 cups White Strawberry Cranberry Juice
2 cups Orange Juice
1 1/2 cups Coconut Rum
1 gallon cubed Ice (not crushed)
Garnish
1/2 cup Pineapples Chopped
3 Limes Sliced
1 cup Strawberries Sliced
Instructions
Place pineapples and oranges in a 1.5-2 gallon drink dispenser. Pour mango cranberry juice and peach schnapps over the fruit and gently stir.
In a separate pitcher, mix the white cranberry juice, orange juice and coconut rum together.
Chill both containers in refrigerator until ready to serve.
Before serving, fill the larger drink dispenser with ice. Pour the second layer from the smaller pitcher slowly and directly on top of the ice.
Gently add some chopped pineapples and a few sliced strawberries in the center.
Very gently, place sliced limes and the rest of the strawberries around the edges of the container with a large spoon or fork.
Notes
If you can’t find Mango Cranberry Juice, use regular Cranberry Juice and add fresh chopped mangos.

Re: Summer drink time.
I've been making a few Hotel Nacionals recently.
A take on the daiquiri for the Hotel Nacional de Cuba in the 1930s. It will bring a bit of prohibition luxury to your summer boozing. As you drink more, alcohol measurements may suddenly become heavier. They're all just guidelines anyway... right?
How I make it.
Sadly i've ran out of Cuban rum.
2 parts white rum (I'm using a Jamican white rum called Kingston 62 - it has a banana funk which I think works though another would be more traditional)
1 part dark rum (i'm using Lambs Navy Rum)
1 part apricot brandy liquer (I'm using Volare)
1 part pineapple juice (co-op own brand)
1/2 a lime's juice
1 barspoon of sugar syrup
Well shaken and well drunk.

Dare I say, this creature you’ve concocted is more zombie than it is daiquiri. At the core of the beast you’ve got your primal blend of rums, of course, but the real clincher is the apricot brandy (not a common ingredient by any means) which ties it’s bonds more closely to the zombie. The pineapple juice is a nice touch as well. Really, all that’s missing is the traditional splash of overproof rum on top to give the old dog just that right amount of bite.
You may try to fool us with your fancy-pants Hotel Nacionals, Mr. Anglo. But you’re really a feral zombie man at heart.

Re: Summer drink time.
Summertime concoctions are now in season, and are most welcome here on the tundra as seasonal ballast against the grey seas of winter recently sailed.
We practically die of a hopeless scurvy and frost bitten soul through the long vodka winter. Then comes the sun back strong and the soil smelling sweet, and the wood ticks and mosquitoes too. And BLENDER DRINKS made with freshly liquored fruit and herbs. A tonic to cool every brow and a reason to rejoice.
Raise high the drink to summer.
