A big dog is good to have. A barker. That deep down mean bark. Outfit him with a heavy duty choke chain in case the police come to the door, or a neighbor. Never put one of those pussy harnesses on your mean dog, it’s insulting to him and also does not improve his neck muscles. A choke chain collar and a leather leash is what you need. You don’t need one of those spiked collars unless it’s impossible to walk the mean fucker without one. Anyway, a big ol’ mean dog is good to have. A big ol’ jug of the hard corn is good to have too.

Hero of the drink
I am here to introduce myself and tell the story of my creation.
I AM Mr. Montrose C. I was born of a highway sign on Interstate 16 in Georgia, announcing the upcoming exit to the towns of Montrose and Cochran. The first time I read that sign I knew who I was to become: Montrose Cochran, blues man, and in the parallel universe, Montrose Cochran, booze man.
I live for the blues, and I live for the booze. Once I climbed into that bottle of Jim Beam sometime in the mid-seventies he became my master. I have strayed a little, experimenting with Gin and Tonic some in the eighties, and sucking down a few bottles of George Dickel or Rebel Yell, but always returning to Mr. Beam.
Before I got lost in that bottle I would shower daily, keeping myself clean and fresh, but now, old and crabby, mostly drunk, I shower when my dogs won’t come near me. But, I am nevertheless happy.
I will tell the story of my life’s inspiration soon, my Grandfather Warren. Until then, here’s to you all!

Welcome to this lovely drunken corner of the world wide web. I've run out of Four Roses, so I'll take a large one on the rocks, thank you and cheers!

The rules
First. I’m buying for everyone, unless it’s wine. I don’t want to offend anyone, but wine gives me heartburn, and once I threw up Boone’s Farm Apple and the Big Mac with fries I had with it into the hair of my only friend I was seated behind in the Chevy Vega he was driving. I ended up walking towards home and was found passed out in the front yard of some guy who was headed to his car to go to work. I don’t remember getting home, because I blacked out.
Being a drunk, I began posting stuff before trying to comply with the rules. I apologize for not offering a drink because of that. I tried to read the rules, but had a difficult time keeping focused, and my vision un-blurred, so I gave up. There are too many items to read and remember, so I will just continue to be myself and ramble on until I am called out or kicked out. My apologies in advance.
I am thrilled to be among the finest drinkers and philosophers the world has to offer, and am very happy to have discovered Modern Drunkard. I hope this will be a lifelong relationship.
I’ll have a double Beam on the rocks.

Welcome Mr MC! Glad to have you on our little drunken ship on the seas of the interwebs.
I'll have some of that Beam. It's a bourbon I have strayed far from in my journey through whisk(e)y.

Thanks heartily for the welcome, and here’s a double Beam on the rocks for your endless pleasure. It has a sweetness I have not noted in any other bourbon, and yet it is most often regarded as the PBR of bourbons. All good to me, as it leaves more for me and my friends here to enjoy.

Thank you for having me.
I have been a fan of Modern Drunkard since I bought the book in 2006. I then bought copies for friends and siblings.
I'm excited to be part of the community and was honored to have an article included in Issue 64.
I'm currently enjoying the Drinking Season (Halloween - St. Patrick's Day) and look forward to the second yearly drinking season (Memorial Day - Labor Day)
