I live in the United States in new york. Now the only bourbon I've drunk before is Jim Beam 4yr and, TJD. I'm looking for a decent bourbon (or was that decent i can't tell) to start drinking since i know nothing about the drink.
P.S. preferably easy to find

Basil Hayden is an easy sipper, worth the extra money.
Knob Creek is honest, mid-range potency.
Beam Black, mmmmmmmmm.
Old Whiskey River: decently priced. Smooth and sweet.
Makers Mark, widely available standard 80 proof, a good Bourbon but IMHO no better than Jim Beam.
Bookers: wicked barrel proof brain fucker, not for the casual drinker.

When I want to try some new liqour I just go to the liqour store and go, "What the fuck is this?" and buy it.
Earlie Cuyler: Allow me to explain the contamination process. Pine cones go in here, party liquors comes out here and proceed to here.

Beam Black is one of the biggest surprises you'll find out there. Pour it over the rock and you'll be amazed how quickly it goes from a sipper's drink to a guzzler's.
My other recomendation is Elijah Craig 12yr. It's smooth and has a lot of subtle flavors just a great Bourbon.

Besides the great suggestions put forth by the Bourbon Gods of the board, I'd add Ezra Brooks and Eagle Rare 10YR Old Single Barrel to the mix as well. Eagle Rare may be harder to find than most of the other suggestions. Also, if Buffalo Trace is available, be sure to grab some of that too. I know it's going to be a living hell trying all of these Bourbons, but someone has to do it, right. Welcome to the board friend.
