Moskavskaya is $7-$8 a fifth here in Los Angeles--cheaper than Gordon's and about 12.8537454 times tastier.

Re: Vodka recomendations
I wandered in to the local likker store a few days back and there was a dude handing out samples of a Polish vodka whose name I can't recall but he said it was made from rye. It was pretty damn tasty -- none of that rubbing alcohol smell and a tiny bit of sweetness that really tickled my tastebuds. Plus, it was free and nearly a whole shot. Even if it was nasty I'd still have been thankful. If anyone knows what I drank please speak up.

Crater Lake. Distilled in Orygone. Good stuff, Maynard.
However, I'm drinking Smirnoff Red. I enjoy it.
I do see enhancing my booze experience once hubby and I split.

Chopin or Stoli Gold are my favorites...if you want regular swilling vodka drink Smirnoff!

Re: Vodka recomendations
badfellow's right about the luksusowa. it's good enough to drink on the rocks and around here it's under $25 for a 1.75. as far as the sweetest vodka, i'd have to cast my vote for ciroq. it's a french vodka distilled from wine grapes. kinda pricey but good.
it's all good in the woods, nobody hears me when i scream.
Re: Vodka recomendations

Skyy 90 is the best vodka you can buy. It's 100% distillate. It's even purer than both Stoli Elit and Jewel of Russia at about half the price of each.

I use Ketel 1 for a lot of my vodka needs. It's nice on the rocks, especially with a bit of lemon, but works just fine discreetly mixed with anything in a bottle and carried about with you.
For drinking chilled straight, I like the Luksusowa.
Stoli is alright, but a bit overpriced in my book. Smirnoff blue for parties, but it gives me a headache.

I'm sure everyone knows this, but it bears repeating: "Tito's Handmade Vodka" is horrific.

Re: Vodka recomendations
I do indeed enjoy Stoli and Luksosowa. UV is good, at about $15 for 1.75 and distilled 4 times. Smirnoff is only distilled thrice. For $14 a fifth... You do the math.
I don't care what they say about you... I think you're alright.

Re: Vodka recomendations
In my younger years, before I moved to rums, I used to drink Vodka almost religiously. In that respect I can offer a little advice:
Essentially you have 4 sections:
Russian Vodkas: Obviously from Russia, their flavour tends to be quite strong and the most popular in the Motherland is Russian Standard. Pierre Smirnoff is quoted as saying he is glad it has such a Russia flavoured taste so Europeans aren't used to it or Smirnoff would be in trouble. As for Stoli, I'm not such a fan, it's more the european tase.
Polish Wodka: Pronounced Wood-ka this is the competition (and in my opinion winner) of who made Vodka first. A lot of mellow flavoured vodkas here but the best to me is Wybrowa. If you can find the Wybrowa Exquisite even better, it's a king of vodkas. Also look for Belvedere here and if you want a head smasher, Polish Pure Spirits Yellow is suprisingly tasty for a 79.9% (160 proof) drink.
European Vodka: I'll include American and most other countries in this as they are based on the flavour of the older european brands such as Absolut. Finlandia is a good inexpensive option and obviously Grey Goose is renowned although it has a slight vanilla taste I'm not looking for in Vodka.
The rest: These are the remainder, some of the more speciallised types. Things like Mexican vodkas or cocktail designed such as Blavod. On these you just gotta taste and try. Such a variety of flavours.
As always though, try as many as you can and see which suots you. I'd also recommend ice with most as chilling brings out the flavour better in my experince.
