That's Rich Stewart posing as himself. He debuted his list in a 2002 edition of the Drunkard (he did a couple other pieces for us as well, I believe), then later expanded it into a book featuring 151 songs. You can get the book at his site.
Personally, I think the Dropkick Murphy's got totally fucked in this list with how low they got ranked. And I would have picked "Kiss Me I'm Shit-faced" instead of "Barroom Hero."
Also... no love for the Lizrd King? No "Roadhouse Blues" or "Whiskey A-Go-Go"? How rude.

I'm bumping this in response to all the best drinking song threads. I personally think There's a Tear in my Beer is the best drinking song of all time, but I listen to and sing Hank everyday and I never heard Atticus, and Rich Steward is one of my favorite MDM authors, so I will relent...
And they say her flower is faded now
Hard weather and hard booze
But maybe that's just the price you pay
For the chains you refuse
Just an aside: the PC-think-of-the-children crew have changed the words of 'Roll out the Barrel'/Beer Barrel Polka or have just about demonized that song. In fact, this is the disclamer on the first site reached by a google search:
Important Note: Some beverages like cider and root beer used to be kept in barrels. But that also applies to some alcoholic beverages, like beer and rum, which explains why this song is also called the "Beer Barrel Polka". So remember that although this is a fun song to sing, excessive alcohol consumption is not good for your health and could lead to serious problems and addictions. In fact, addictions of all types can be very serious health concerns. Please visit:

(I think that I have brought this yup before.)
Someone should tell the little bastards that Johnny Appleseed was spreading his seed, so to speak, so people had a good source for booze to drink. Another accomplishment of Prohibition was re-writing this little part of our proud Drunkard history.

Go figure- the New Yawk Girl likes Billy Joel. Deep down, she's prolly disappointed that Springsteen and/or Bon Jovi didn't get a mention.
Personally, I have issues with the original list, but I don't know if I could do better. Although the first line of Billy Joel's "Scenes from an Italian Resturaunt" makes it worth an honorable mention-
"Bottle of red, bottle of white, whatever kind of mood you're in tonight..."
I prefer Drunk songs to Drinking songs. Something everyone knows and can sing along with, as opposed to simply something about the joys of the sweet, sweet booze.

"Roadhouse Blues" needs to be on there, but at least Alabama song is on there, which The Doors did cover.
My fave drinking song would have to be one that probably no-one on this board would have ever heard of, it's called "Big Beer Wall" by an Aussie band - Jebediah. It's a secret track on their second album 'Of Someday Shambles', which seems to make it even more special!
"Gonna build a big Beer wall, it's gonna be 15 feet tall, got a feelin' it's my call..."
"Alcohol is a lifestyle. Alcohol is my lifestyle..." - Homer J. Simpson
you need "Ramblin' Man" and "Aint wastin no more time" on there, the fuckin "Midnight Rider' the damn Allman Brther's, and "Big River" by the legend, I'm not even gonna name him cause you should know it, also, "So Doggone Lonesome" and "Cocaine Blues".
and to The Doors list, i'd like to add "Soul Kitchen". I can drink all night to that one, but a lady has to be there, that song demands female company.
