You'll get the booze per capita figured out. Just make sure that with a few thousand bucks of liquor at stake, the bartenders you hire comply with state liquor laws.

Re: My fellow lushes I request advice
Hey guys, if this were my wedding and I were footing the bill there would be way more than enough booze to go around. I'd INTENTIONALLY order extra to have a case or two lying around. However my friend isn't a huge drinker, although he holds his own, neither is his bride. His parents are dries, not sure about hers. The booze would not be put to good use and we don't want to waste, I mean, there are undrunk kids in China.

Which of these options would you say is the more manageable?

But then isn't a wedding supposed(???) to be an until-death-do-you-part, once-in-a-lifetime type of thing?Bur wrote:A requires toyu to drink in way faster paceDrunkenstein44 wrote:Truth.Jozer wrote:You can:

Seems like a good time to drink hearty and have a party.

It's your civic duty to ask the local Lion's Club or equivalent to serve beer. I know they do it as a money maker for our local festivals, though they may not do it for weddings.

Re: My fellow lushes I request advice
There is no way to buy too much booze. Not for a party, not for the pantry. If there's any left over, it will get drunk up, by someone. Booze is one of those household staples that you can always buy lots of, because you always need it. In our house, Bourbon,TP, tuna, butter, bourbon, Tabasco sauce, tomato puree,bourbon...these are some of the things we buy that always get used up before they have time to spoil, so when they're on sale, we stock up. And for she who wondered, we freeze the butter, on account of I bake a lot and it's about three times the cost when it's not on sale.

250 people, that's quite a bit. We had, maybe 75 at mine, small by most standards. What needs to happen is this, your boy and his wife know all the guests, have him give you a rundown of the drinking habits. Are we looking at an older crowd or a younger crowd? There are too many variables here to give you a somewhat accurate answer. How long is the reception?

Having bartended weddings, here is what you want, IMO.
Vodka, rum, whiskey, beer, wine.
As said earlier, 4 drinks per person is about average. I would recommend getting a simple white and red wine, chardonnay and cabernet savingon would do it.

Buy only drinks your friend likes, and buy too much. That way he'll at least enjoy the drinks after the wedding. Do not go cheap on bad booze. And if his in-laws are dries, fuck them. I hope his wife-to-be is not dry, otherwise he should reconsider the wedding.

Re: My fellow lushes I request advice
That said, for the dinner you should count one bottle of wine per person on average, plus the champagne (half a bottle a person) as an aperitif. Of course, cava or prosecco will do also. After dinner, if you want people to party, I would go for beer in stead of hard liquor (but foresee a few bottles anywhow). As for the beer, each marriage is a transition ritual to every partcipant, so you will have to consider that half of the participants will go to the max (the female half will be driving). Here in Belgium, we have these mysterious beer kegs that never run dry. I'm not sure whether we export them though.
