I would say it depends upon your taste. I haven't had it but once and more people than not that have had both told me they like Sailor better. Then again, a couple of people loved the Kraken. I like Sailor better.hossthomas wrote:have any of you guys tried the kraken black rum? i've only recently started seein it at the candy store, but i've passed it by every time to get the sailor instead. does anybody know if it's worth givin a try or should i just stick to the good ol sailor?

at around 15 bucks a fifth i think i'll give it a shot. i'm really not expectin to like it better than the sailor, since i think sailor is pretty much perfect. however, it looks interesting and with a couple suggestions to try it from some fellow drunkards i'll give it a shot and give my report later.

i LOOOOVE kraken, but mostly neat. i feel it would overpower any cocktail, and ice is not approprate. i love sailor, especially with blenheim ginger ale. but the sweetness of sailor neat tends to give me MEAN hangovers.
and the kraken bottles are badass.

Dark and Stormys with Bundaberg Rum are awesome. Not sure if you can get it in the states but you should have a go if you ever spot it.
It's got a reputation as making people fight, but I don't blame the rum, I blame the twits who are doing the fighting. Funny though that at sporting events they won't serve full strength beer cause of the twits but will still serve Bundy...

Bought a 750 of Gosling's over the weekend, and a six-pack of Gosling's Ginger Beer. My first Dark & Stormy was great, but after I finish the six-pack, I'll check out the ginger beers at the international grocery a few stores down from Westroads. Hopefully there'll be one with real sugar intstead of corn syrup.
May you all be hung, drawn, and quartered!

there's one from australia that's good, bundaberg. not sure if the use real sugar, but they claim to be "natural."GraveyardShiftChuck wrote:Bought a 750 of Gosling's over the weekend, and a six-pack of Gosling's Ginger Beer. Re: Suggest-A-Rum
The Kraken... she makes a nice heated rum punch with hard cider and a swirl of the cinnamon stick soaked in honey. Maybe one of those halved clementines poked full of cloves and a tiny elf dancing with a whale harpoon.

Pussers's Navy Strength is the only rum that I have had in a loooooooong time. Ron Rico put me off of rum, and how! Geewillickers, SJ wasn't even sold around here until recently.

Never had a problem with the Sailor, hangover wise, but it did get to the point where the sweetness just wasn't that appealing. Haven't had it a long time.ivan wrote:nic the chick wrote:i LOOOOVE kraken, but mostly neat... i love sailor... but the sweetness of sailor neat tends to give me MEAN hangovers.

Admiral Nelson is a good choice
Re: Suggest-A-Rum
It's obvious - English Harbour 5yo. Their older stuff is better but this is the best bang-for-your-buck rum there is.
IMO.
