Gin + 7-up= refreshing
I came up with this recipe because I like a splash of Rose's with my G & Ts, and once I started to really think about it, I figured that 7-up is really tonic water - quinine + lemon-lime flavor. The gin works well with 7-up, especially once it settles for a minute or two.

Sounds pretty outstanding, but I can't remember the last time I saw 7-up. I figure sprite would be too sweet but a splash wouldn't hurt.

I made those when I couldn't find the seltzer at the store for a gin rickey. Good stuff.

When I used to live in Florida my local was so low rent they didn't have tonic so I drank these out of necessity.

I love this drink... 7-up should be used in more recipes, it works well!

Billy Holiday like Gordon's Gin and 7-up for breakfast.

Re: Gin + 7-up= refreshing
I just fired one of these up after finding no tonic in the house. Very refreshing.

Gin and Sprite is alright....still prefer tonic.

I must second this statement, I've had being finn plenty of both sides + raw gin still I think Gin and Tonic (even with cheap tonic or gin) is better.captain gonzo wrote:Gin and Sprite is alright....still prefer tonic.

I like gin on ice, but just a splash of tonic brings the flavor out, and a drop of bitters helps even more.Bur wrote:I must second this statement, I've had being finn plenty of both sides + raw gin still I think Gin and Tonic (even with cheap tonic or gin) is better.captain gonzo wrote:Gin and Sprite is alright....still prefer tonic.

Gin and Mtn Dew seems to work ok too as far as citrus plus gin goes. In fact, I'm wondering if Mtn Dew plus a bit of lime juice might not make a decent low budget margarita mix.

That margarita mix bit is pretty clever.John Barleycorn wrote:Gin and Mtn Dew seems to work ok too as far as citrus plus gin goes. In fact, I'm wondering if Mtn Dew plus a bit of lime juice might not make a decent low budget margarita mix.
The only 2 times I've puked(I've got an iron stomach[though not bragging because I don't have an iron voice or gait or ability not to nod out]) I was mixing mountain dew and booze. Very little should be fine, but the sugar content turns the guts. Never tried diet tho.

Sorry to bump an ancient thread. However, its a blistering hot day out, so I just tried the gin, diet 7-up, and a lime. Heavenly!
