Re: On the Blackout - How (or should?) you avoid it
Yeah, drinking fast will do it. A blackout is when you're drunk enough that you no longer process short term into long term memory. You can still function OK; although you'll tend to repeat yourself. If you want to avoid it, don't drink on an empty stomach and stick to low alcohol drinks like beer. That'll hold it off for a while; but it'll catch up at some point if you keep drinking. One way to avoid it might be to have a glass of water every hour or so and go for a walk around the block. But how realistic is that?brandonman wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 9:30 pmA question that I've always pondered on. I don't know if it relates to my drinking extremely fast compared to others (this is, let's say, highly likely), tending not to have a lot of huge significant events, or something in my brain chemistry, but I feel as though I tend to black out events a lot earlier than others do. However, I'm reassured by everybody I know that I seem to maintain composure and almost act undrunk once I hit the blackout point. I just talk louder and more often. My hope, however, is to be able to push myself as I usually do, WITHOUT forgetting events. Is there something particular you guys do that maintains your train of memory of a night? Does food help? Does looking like a fuddy-duddy with a glass of water on the side help? I DO always remember significant events. I just want to be able to more vividly recall the train of events through a night. I wonder if I just don't cause wild enough events for myself to remember through the haze.
I may be broaching a dangerous topic. Sometimes, reconstructing the night, and suppressing the embarrassing bits, is the most fun part of the next day. On that thought, maybe forget I asked! I should start keeping a drinking diary for when I'm not at home with my internet history...

Nope! Embrace id. Is .It IT.
I have gone time travelling exactly twice. The first time, I was at a concert in Denver, and then I was in the backseat of a car in Boulder. I promptly lost my shit. Bought the Chevelle the next day, so things were good.
The second time, I was at a bar here in town, then I woke up, in bed, with a phone full of messages of the "where are you? Let us know you are alive!" variety.
It is exciting! Everybody should black out once in a while. Makes life interesting.

Time travel is a hell of a ride. One minute it's dark, the next light. I've only done itwaahoohah wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 6:29 pmNope! Embrace id. Is .It IT.

Memory, though useful, is highly overrated. And typically inaccurate anyway.
