I'm heading to Boston in a few weeks for a business trip. Any good places in the downtown area? I'll be spending most of my time at the Hynes Convention Center, and I'm staying in a hotel about a mile east of there.
In my searches, I found a place called 'Bukowski's Tavern' that would initially seem to have promise, but internet queries tend to pull up the trendy, overhyped places, and I just want a real bar.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Sillouette in Allston is pretty good, although it may be getting overrun by hipsters by now. In Boston, all you really need to do is walk around until you find a bar of your liking. There are about 1,000,000 bars there.

Excellent! My kind of town, then.
As of late, I've found myself taking many business trips to Chicago. I have a favorite activity of having the driver take me to some spot 50-or-so blocks away from the hotel to a bar, having a drink, and stopping at each interesting place on the way back. It's quite good exercise, an interesting way to see the city, and a great way to experience the very wide variation in watering holes in-between.
Based on your response, I truly hope I find a similar atmosphere in Boston.

I had a great time in some bar called the Banshee. Not sure where it was, but I had fun.

There are really a TON of great bars in Boston, but they are really spread out and each area has a different flavor. Mass Ave in Cambridge has some great spots like People's Republik (a Communism themed bar, parodying the idea that Cambridge is full of Commie liberals. Which it is.), and then there is the whole Middle East, TT The Bear's complex. I think there are 5 bars right there. Boston has a wide variety of awesome bars of all sorts. I bet good money that you will have a fuckin blast.

Hi I live near there. I can attest to the fact there are bars every where.
Lot of Irish ones too. In Boston, it can get pretty expensive to drink. Go to the local pubs
they are a lot more reasonable...

Check out The Point over in the Faneuil Hall area. Great place with $7 pitchers...of Bud Light. But still, $7 pitchers, and a great juke box. Gets too crowded on weekends, but the perfect bar for a random weeknight drink session.

IF you make it up to Somerville, the Sligo Pub is a great cheap little dive right in Davis Square. Gets way too crowded late on Weekends, though.
